7.4 earthquake in Alaska's Aleutian Islands triggers tsunami warning [updated]
A magnitude 7.4 earthquake in the northern Pacific Ocean has triggered a tsunami warning along Alaska's Aleutian Islands. No tsunami alert was immediately issued for California and the rest of the West Coast.
[Updated, 9:27 p.m.: The tsunami warning in Alaska has been canceled.]
The quake, which was centered in the Fox Islands area, about 1,000 miles southwest of Anchorage, struck about 8:09 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time.
If a tsunami was generated, the first waves are expected to hit Adak, Alaska, at 9:12 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time, according to the Alaska Tsunami Warning Center.
