The Hellenic Navy (HN) (Greek: Πολεμικό Ναυτικό, Polemikó Naftikó, abbreviated ΠΝ) is the naval force of Greece, part of the Greek Armed Forces. The modern Greek navy has its roots in the naval forces of various Aegean Islands, which fought in the Greek War of Independence. During the periods of monarchy (1833–1924 and 1936–1973) it was known as the Royal Navy (Βασιλικόν Ναυτικόν, Vasilikón Naftikón, abbreviated ΒΝ).The total displacement of all the navy's vessels is approximately 150,000 tons.The motto of the Hellenic Navy is "Μέγα το της Θαλάσσης Κράτος" from Thucydides' account of Pericles' oration on the eve of the Peloponnesian War. Απίστευτη τραγωδία σε βάπτιση: Σκότωσαν τον νονό με μπαλωθιές
Το τραγικό γεγονός που φέρνει και πάλι στο προσκήνιο ένα ιδιαίτερα επικίνδυνο κρητικό έθιμο, συνέβη σε χωριό της Καρδίτσας, στην περιοχή του Σμοκόβου, τα ξημερώματα της Δευτέρας.
Ο νονός κατέληξε στην εντατική του Πανεπιστημιακού Νοσοκομείου Λάρισας.

Σύμφωνα με όσα έγιναν γνωστά, τα βαφτίσια έγιναν την Κυριακή και το γλέντι «άναψε» μετά, με το νονό και τη συντροφιά του από την Κρήτη να στήνουν ένα κλασικό κρητικό γλέντι.

Οι μπαλωθιές έπεσαν «σύννεφο», αφού στο σημείο του γλεντιού βρέθηκαν μετά από την αστυνομία δεκάδες φυσίγγια κυνηγετικών όπλων και πιστολιού ή πιστολιών.
.
Ο θανάσιμος τραυματισμός συνέβη γύρω στις 6 το πρωί της Δευτέρας. Η σφαίρα καρφώθηκε στον κρόταφο του 35χρονου άγνωστο κάτω από ποιες συνθήκες.

Η αστυνομία εκτιμά ότι μέσα στην παραζάλη και το «τσακίρ κέφι» του ολονύκτιου γλεντιού, είτε το ίδιο το θύμα να πυροβόλησε κατά λάθος προς τον κρόταφό του, είτε από εξοστρακισμό μπαλωθιάς, από άλλο άτομο.

Μεταφέρθηκε αρχικά στο Γ. Ν. Καρδίτσας και στην συνέχεια στην εντατική του Πανεπιστημιακού Νοσοκομείου Λάρισας, σε πολύ κρίσιμη κατάσταση.

Η σφαίρα σφηνώθηκε στο κρανίο και λόγω της κρισιμότητας της κατάστασης δεν έγινε προσπάθεια αφαίρεσής της, παρά το γεγονός ότι εισήχθη εσπευσμένα στο χειρουργείο.
Το όπλο με το οποίο πυροβολήθηκε ο 35χρονος, ένα 9άρι, βρέθηκε στον τόπο της τραγωδίας και εξετάζεται στα εργαστήρια της ΕΛΑΣ.
