The Hellenic Navy (HN) (Greek: Πολεμικό Ναυτικό, Polemikó Naftikó, abbreviated ΠΝ) is the naval force of Greece, part of the Greek Armed Forces. "The navy, as it represents a necessary weapon for Greece, should only be created for war and aim to victory."...............The Hellenic Merchant Marine refers to the Merchant Marine of Greece, engaged in commerce and transportation of goods and services universally. It consists of the merchant vessels owned by Greek civilians, flying either the Greek flag or a flag of convenience. Greece is a maritime nation by tradition, as shipping is arguably the oldest form of occupation of the Greeks and a key element of Greek economic activity since the ancient times. Nowadays, Greece has the largest merchant fleet in the world, which is the second largest contributor to the national economy after tourism and forms the backbone of world shipping. OSAKA -(Mainichi Japan) July 8, 2010-

A taxi barreled through Osaka's bustling Dotonbori district at around 1:30 a.m. on July 8, hitting pedestrians and plowing into a restaurant information center, injuring seven.

According to Osaka police, the taxi's driver, 73-year-old Motoichi Makino, said, "The engine RPM suddenly shot up, and even when I pushed the brakes nothing happened." Police are investigating the cause.

Police say the taxi belonged to the company "Hato Taxi," located in nearby Sakai City. The taxi was heading south from the direction of Souemoncho, crossed the Dotonbori River on Tazaemon-bashi, a 4-meter wide pedestrian-only bridge, then continued straight and crashed into the first floor of the information center. In addition to the two women in the taxi, five pedestrians who were on or near the bridge sustained light injuries. One witness said the taxi was "going at about 60 kilometers per hour."

Makino reportedly told police, "About 20 meters north of the police box the engine suddenly revved up. I purposefully aimed for the railing of the bridge, but the car still wouldn't stop," and "about three days ago the car had the same problem, and I asked the company to repair it."

Hato Taxi, meanwhile, said, "We received a report from the driver and replaced the part that regulates engine revolutions. We are very sorry for the incident, but it is impossible that a maintenance error was the cause." They also said the driver has over 10 years of experience.
