MOSCOW - The Olympic flag has been hoisted in Sochi, the Russian Black Sea resort that will host the nation's first Winter Games in 2014.
The Olympic and Paralympic flags were carried from the airport on a special train to the centre of Sochi on Friday. Russia's Olympic and Paralympic medallists then carried them to the city's main square.
President Dmitry Medvedev, who attended the ceremony, said that Russia still has to do a lot to prepare for the games, but voiced confidence that it will prove that Sochi was the right choice.
Medvedev then chaired an official meeting to analyze reasons behind Russia's flop during Vancouver Games, where the nation won only three golds and 15 medals overall in its worst performance ever. |
