The Russian Navy successfully test-fired an experimental Bulava (SS-N-X-30) intercontinental ballistic missile on Friday from its Yury Dolgoruky submarine in the White Sea, the Defense Ministry said.
“Today as part of the state trials program, a successful routine test took place of a Bulava ICBM from the Yury Dolgoruky submarine,” the Navy said.

The missile, the third Bulava launched this year and seventeenth overall, hit a target on the Kura test range in Kamchatka in the Russian Far East.
“The missile’s flight took place as planned. The missile’s payload hit the range on time," the Defense Ministry said.

Bulava has had a troubled test and development, and only nine of the test firings so far have been declared fully successful.

The annual military parade held in Thessaloniki to celebrate Greece's defiance of the Axis powers in 1940 and its subsequent victory against invading Fascist Italy was postponed for a while due to protests on Friday while Greeks protested at parades in every major city.

President Karolos Papoulias was forced to leave the dignitaries' podium and was followed sometime later by Defence Minister Panos Beglitis.

Thousands of survivors left homeless by the earthquake that hit eastern Turkey are in desperate need of shelter, a UK disaster response expert has warned.

Some 2,000 buildings collapsed after Sunday's 7.2-magnitude tremor, which killed at least 460 people.
More are afraid to go home and stuck outside in freezing temperatures, said Katy Attfield of the British Red Cross.
The charity is supporting the Turkish Red Crescent, after Turkey's government said it would accept foreign aid.
"The area affected is mountainous, it's freezing, and making sure survivors have protection against the elements is vital for keeping them safe," said Ms Attfield, who is head of disaster management.
Almost 500 aftershocks have led to fears more buildings will collapse, leaving many people scared to stay inside.

The Red Crescent is distributing tents, stoves, sleeping bags, food and water and has set up camps in a stadium in Ercis - one of the cities worst affected by the quake which struck the province of Van.
However, it has reported having 17 trucks looted as some survivors fought over shipments of aid.
Cornish charity ShelterBox also has a team in Turkey, working with the Red Crescent to deliver emergency tents and survival equipment.

Turkish ministers had initially insisted the country could cope with impact of the earthquake but ministers have now requested prefabricated housing and containers from other countries, as well as help with reconstruction.
Meanwhile, health officials are warning people to drink bottled water after detecting an increase in the number of diarrhoea cases.

NEEMO 15 Commander Shannon Walker (NASA) and fellow aquanaut David Saint-Jacques (Canadian Space Agency) use a small telescoping boom as a means of translating across a simulated asteroid surface.

Each end of the small boom can be anchored to the surface by either magnets or tethers and the astronauts can traverse the surface by alternating anchor points. Various translation techniques are being tested during this 13-day NEEMO mission.

NEEMO, which stands for NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations, is one facet of NASA's Analog and Field Testing Missions. As NASA plans to expand human spaceflight and robotic exploration beyond low Earth orbit, astronauts are being trained to meet these challenges. Future destinations may include the moon, near Earth asteroids and Mars and its moons.

To prepare for the challenge of exploring these destinations in space, NASA conducts missions here on Earth, in remote locations that have physical similarities to extreme space environments.
