The Hellenic Navy (HN) (Greek: Πολεμικό Ναυτικό, Polemikó Naftikó, abbreviated ΠΝ) is the naval force of Greece, part of the Greek Armed Forces. The modern Greek navy has its roots in the naval forces of various Aegean Islands, which fought in the Greek War of Independence. During the periods of monarchy (1833–1924 and 1936–1973) it was known as the Royal Navy (Βασιλικόν Ναυτικόν, Vasilikón Naftikón, abbreviated ΒΝ).The total displacement of all the navy's vessels is approximately 150,000 tons.The motto of the Hellenic Navy is "Μέγα το της Θαλάσσης Κράτος" from Thucydides' account of Pericles' oration on the eve of the Peloponnesian War. Pericles' words are written across the top of the emblem. "The navy, as it represents a necessary weapon for Greece, should only be created for war and aim to victory."...............The Hellenic Merchant Marine refers to the Merchant Marine of Greece, engaged in commerce and transportation of goods and services universally. It consists of the merchant vessels owned by Greek civilians, flying either the Greek flag or a flag of convenience. Greece is a maritime nation by tradition, as shipping is arguably the oldest form of occupation of the Greeks and a key element of Greek economic activity since the ancient times. Νέο επεισόδιο στο Μνημείο των Πεσόντων στην Οτάβα

Η καναδική αστυνομία συνέλαβε σήμερα έναν άνδρα κοντά στο Μνημείο των Πεσόντων στην Οτάβα όπου χθες πυροβολήθηκε και σκοτώθηκε ένας στρατιώτης, την ώρα που ο πρωθυπουργός του Καναδά Στίβεν Χάρπερ και η σύζυγός του προσέρχονταν για να τιμήσουν το θύμα της επίθεσης.

Ο Χάρπερ και η σύζυγός του κατέθεταν στεφάνι στο Μνημείο όταν αστυνομικοί, φωνάζοντας και με προτεταμένα τα όπλα τους, περικύκλωσαν έναν άνδρα και τον διέταξαν να πέσει στο έδαφος.
Σύμφωνα με την αστυνομία της Οτάβα ο άνδρας αυτός «παραβίασε τη σκηνή του εγκλήματος». Δεν έχει διευκρινιστεί ποια ήταν τα κίνητρά του. «Πέρασε μέσα από την ταινία (σ.σ. που τοποθετεί η αστυνομία για να αποκλείσει έναν χώρο). Του είπαμε να μην το κάνει. Δεν μας άκουσε» είπε ένας αξιωματικός.
Το πρωθυπουργικό ζεύγος, στην απέναντι πλευρά του δρόμου, ήταν περικυκλωμένο από πολύ ισχυρές αστυνομικές δυνάμεις. Πολλοί αστυνομικοί κρατούσαν αυτόματα τουφέκια αντί για τα συνηθισμένα όπλα τους.

Παρά το σοκ από την αιματηρή επίθεση της Τετάρτης στην Οτάβα το κοινοβούλιο και η γερουσία θα συνεχίσουν τις εργασίες τους σήμερα, αποτίνοντας φόρο τιμής στον στρατιώτη που σκοτώθηκε χθες. Η σημαία στο κεντρικό κτίριο του κοινοβουλίου, όπου εισέβαλε ο ένοπλος προτού πέσει νεκρός από τα πυρά του φρούραρχου, κυμάτιζε σήμερα μεσίστια.
