At least 103 people are feared killed after a military cargo plane went down in north-eastern Algeria, reports the country's Annahar TV channel.
An officer in Algeria’s intelligence service, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that 103 people died onboard the plane, AP reported.
.
There are conflicting reports on the number of people on board the plane. According to Elkhabar, 123 people were killed in the crash, while the local Al Watan newspaper reported that 128 people were killed. According to local broadcaster Annahar, one person survived the crash but has very serious injuries.
The plane crashed in a mountainous area in the Oum El Bouaghi province. Shortly before that, communication with the jet was cut off, military sources told the channel.
The cause of the crash could have been bad weather conditions, according to preliminary information, local daily newspaper Elkhabar reported. Witnesses in the area said it clipped a mountain and then crashed, AP reported.
The plane was heading to the city of Constantine located in the northwest of the country, according to military sources, RIA Novosti reports.
Families of military staff were travelling on the plane. The C-130 Hercules aircraft crashed with 99 passengers and four crew members onboard.
.
Ambulances have been sent to the scene of the crash. The authorities have not yet released a statement on the crash, and no official death toll was immediately available.

The C-130 Hercules is a four-engine turboprop aircraft, originally designed for troop, medical evacuation, and cargo transport.
The last major plane crash in Algeria occurred on March 6, 2003, when a plane heading from Tamanrasset in the south of the country crashed with 103 people on board. Only one person survived on that occasion.
