Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived in Moscow on Saturday to attend ceremonies marking the 65th anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany during World War II.
The Chinese leader will join other state leaders for the huge parade on Moscow's Red Square Sunday and wreath-laying ceremonies at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
During his stay in Moscow, Hu will meet Russian war veterans, who helped China in fighting against Japanese invaders during World War II.
Hu is also expected to meet Russian leaders on bilateral issues and important global and regional issues, Chinese diplomats said.
The war, which was called "the Great Patriotic War" in Russia, refers to the battles fought by the Soviet Union from June 1941 to May 1945 against Nazi Germany and its allies on the Eastern Front, and is regarded as an important part of the world's Anti-Fascist War.
In the world's Anti-Fascist War, the Soviet Union fought 80 percent of the German fascist forces in the European theater, costing the Soviet Union 27 million lives and immeasurable national wealth. The Soviet army and people defended the sovereignty and dignity of their motherland with their blood and lives, and made great contribution to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War.
The Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was also an important part of the world's Anti-Fascist War, and China was its main battleground in the East.
The Chinese people and army contained and annihilated much of Japanese invaders' military strength and crushed the Japanese militarists' attempt to become hegemony in Asia. The Chinese army and people made great contributions to the world's victory over fascism.
In August 1945, at a crucial stage of China's war against Japanese invaders, the Soviet Red Army marched into the battleground of northeast China and joined the Chinese army and people in fighting Japanese invaders, providing important assistance for the Chinese people's ultimate victory.
"It is of great significance for Russia to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the end of the Great Patriotic War," said China's Assistant Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping at a press briefing Wednesday.
He said that the celebrations will help the international community remember history, reach consensus, seek unity and promote peace.
