The Hellenic Navy (HN) (Greek: Πολεμικό Ναυτικό, Polemikó Naftikó, abbreviated ΠΝ) is the naval force of Greece, part of the Greek Armed Forces. The modern Greek navy has its roots in the naval forces of various Aegean Islands, which fought in the Greek War of Independence. During the periods of monarchy (1833–1924 and 1936–1973) it was known as the Royal Navy (Βασιλικόν Ναυτικόν, Vasilikón Naftikón, abbreviated ΒΝ).The total displacement of all the navy's vessels is approximately 150,000 tons. The motto of the Hellenic Navy is "Μέγα το της Θαλάσσης Κράτος" from Thucydides' account of Pericles' oration on the eve of the Peloponnesian War. This has been roughly translated as "Great is the country that controls the sea". The Hellenic Navy's emblem consists of an anchor in front of a crossed Christian cross and trident, with the cross symbolizing Greek Orthodoxy, and the trident symbolizing Poseidon, the god of the sea in Greek mythology. Pericles' words are written across the top of the emblem. "The navy, as it represents a necessary weapon for Greece, should only be created for war and aim to victory."...............The Hellenic Merchant Marine refers to the Merchant Marine of Greece, engaged in commerce and transportation of goods and services universally. It consists of the merchant vessels owned by Greek civilians, flying either the Greek flag or a flag of convenience. Greece is a maritime nation by tradition, as shipping is arguably the oldest form of occupation of the Greeks and a key element of Greek economic activity since the ancient times. Nowadays, Greece has the largest merchant fleet in the world, which is the second largest contributor to the national economy after tourism and forms the backbone of world shipping. The Greek fleet flies a variety of flags, however some Greek shipowners gradually return to Greece following the changes to the legislative framework governing their operations and the improvement of infrastructure.Blogger Tips and Tricks

KURUKSHETRA: After establishing a greenhouse gas emission trading scheme for the cost-effective reduction of such emissions in community, the European Union (EU) is all set to make people aware of the solar houses. It is planning to expand its horizon in various parts of the Himalayas to save the melting glaciers.

The EU climate action commissioner, Connie Hedegaard along with the ambassador and head of the delegation paid a visit to the EU projects in villages adjoining Kurukshetra on Thursday.

Ellen Pedersen, a European Union delegate said that the glaciers downstream the Western Himalayas were disappearing at an alarming rate and in future it could affect their sustainability.

"In the past few years, we have been constructing green houses in that particular area and in future we will building over 1,000 solar passive houses," Pedersen added.

The delegate further added that a research carried by the EU showed that the glaciers in parts of Lahaul Spiti, Leh Ladakh and Kargil were melting very fast.

Speaking about the projects in this region, EU climate action commissioner said that a project on risk reduction due to Regional Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) has been initiated in the Himalayas. "The objective of the project is to strength GLOF risk reduction efforts by promoting non-structural and community-based interventions," Hedegaard said.

The EU delegates said that a project on adaption to changing water resources availability in Northern Indian, with Himalayan glacier retreat and changing monsoon pattern, was also initiated in 2009. "The project will assess the impact of Himalayan glacier retreat and recommend the appropriate response strategies," said Robert Donkers, minister counsellor environment.

The delegation visited village Seonthi, Gaganpur, Rampur Gainda and Malikpur Bangar, where the EU projects have been running.

As this article illustrates, solar water heating is going on all over the world because it is very often the most cost-effective, environmentally impactful energy investment one can make!:

However, there simply wasn’t a lot of other great information out there on the subject, especially for the home...that is, until yesterday: check out www.solarwatertv.com for more info on solar water heating! It's all there and we have nothing to sell!

www.solarwatertv.com an objective, 3rd party source of information that aims to help people explore the solar hot water options. We officially launched the site yesterday and would be very pleased to know what you think about it.

Dear Joe,
I took notice of your comment, however
