The Hellenic Navy (HN) (Greek: Πολεμικό Ναυτικό, Polemikó Naftikó, abbreviated ΠΝ) is the naval force of Greece, part of the Greek Armed Forces. The modern Greek navy has its roots in the naval forces of various Aegean Islands, which fought in the Greek War of Independence. During the periods of monarchy (1833–1924 and 1936–1973) it was known as the Royal Navy (Βασιλικόν Ναυτικόν, Vasilikón Naftikón, abbreviated ΒΝ).The total displacement of all the navy's vessels is approximately 150,000 tons. The motto of the Hellenic Navy is "Μέγα το της Θαλάσσης Κράτος" from Thucydides' account of Pericles' oration on the eve of the Peloponnesian War. This has been roughly translated as "Great is the country that controls the sea". The Hellenic Navy's emblem consists of an anchor in front of a crossed Christian cross and trident, with the cross symbolizing Greek Orthodoxy, and the trident symbolizing Poseidon, the god of the sea in Greek mythology. Pericles' words are written across the top of the emblem. "The navy, as it represents a necessary weapon for Greece, should only be created for war and aim to victory."...............The Hellenic Merchant Marine refers to the Merchant Marine of Greece, engaged in commerce and transportation of goods and services universally. It consists of the merchant vessels owned by Greek civilians, flying either the Greek flag or a flag of convenience. Greece is a maritime nation by tradition, as shipping is arguably the oldest form of occupation of the Greeks and a key element of Greek economic activity since the ancient times. Nowadays, Greece has the largest merchant fleet in the world, which is the second largest contributor to the national economy after tourism and forms the backbone of world shipping. The Greek fleet flies a variety of flags, however some Greek shipowners gradually return to Greece following the changes to the legislative framework governing their operations and the improvement of infrastructure.Blogger Tips and Tricks

AEGISHJALMAR TATTOO - An aegishjalmar can take on many different specific forms but in general they are all composed of the same small buildings blocks of ancient Norse runes. They begin with a simple cross in the middle and grow from there. Frequently they are used as talismans or protective devices. However, it is actually impossible to tell the meaning of any particular one, since the small runes that make them up serve general functions -- such as collecting energy or routing it from one place to another. Only the person who created the aegishjalmar, giving it a certain purpose upon creation, can ever truly say what it means.

BIOHAZARD TATTOO - The biohazard warning symbol is a popular tattoo, partly owing to its innately intricate and interesting pattern, partly to its resemblance to tribal tattoo art, and partly to what it symbolizes. It is internationally recognized as "the potential presence of a biohazard" (a biological substance that poses a hazard to humans). The symbol was developed by the Dow Chemicals Biohazards Research and Development team on a contract with the National Cancer Institute (NCI), after deciding that a warning symbol to enhance biohazard containment was critically needed. The team that formally developed the symbol, with much testing and redesign, eventually came up with the one that we know today, satisfying their initial six requirements: that it be (1) striking in form to draw immediate attention, (2) unique and unambiguous, (3) quickly recognizable and easily recalled, (4) easily stenciled, (5) symmetrical in order to appear identical from all angles, and (6) acceptable to groups of varying ethnic backgrounds.

Claddagh Tattoo Design

CLADDAGH TATTOO - The Claddagh (pronounced CLAW-DA) is an Irish symbol of love and friendship. Typically, the Claddagh consists of two hands, a heart, and a crown. The two hands represent friendship, the crown loyalty, and the heart is, of course, love. The origin of this modern betrothal symbol may actually go back some four hundred years to a small fishing village of the same name in the Galway Bay region of Ireland. It may have originated as an identifiable marking for the sails of boats there, but it eventually came to be used most regularly as a betrothal ring -- invented perhaps in 1689 by a Galway native jeweler who had been captured by pirates but returned safely to his true love after five years away. Alternatively, the Claddagh ring may been brought back from the Crusades by a young man who had been captured by the Saracens. While the origin of this symbol is likely lost to time, the meaning is clear. It is a pledge of friendship, loyalty, and love and a message that the bearer is "spoken for."

DEVIL TATTOO - The Devil, or Satan, comes in a wide variety of forms in tattoo art -- with bat-like wings and sometimes a tail, perhaps a fine gentleman in a suit, other times with cloven hooves, the grotesque of a cathedral column, or even a prince, although a horned and red-colored demon is a favorite. He is the opposite of the divine and the counterpart of God, associated with evil of course, but more importantly for tattoo, associated with temptation. His entire purpose is to deprive humans of the grace of God by tempting them into sinful behavior and giving in to their base desires. This particular example is also referred to as "hot stuff" (among other names), using Satan’s residence to allude to the attractiveness of the bearer of the tattoo.
