The Hellenic Navy (HN) (Greek: Πολεμικό Ναυτικό, Polemikó Naftikó, abbreviated ΠΝ) is the naval force of Greece, part of the Greek Armed Forces. The modern Greek navy has its roots in the naval forces of various Aegean Islands, which fought in the Greek War of Independence. It consists of the merchant vessels owned by Greek civilians, flying either the Greek flag or a flag of convenience. Greece is a maritime nation by tradition, as shipping is arguably the oldest form of occupation of the Greeks and a key element of Greek economic activity since the ancient times. Ισόβια σε 36χρονο για τη δολοφονία 48χρονου στους Κεραμάτες Άρτας

Ποινή ισόβιας κάθειρξης και 3,5 ετών επέβαλε το Μικτό Ορκωτό Δικαστήριο Κακουργημάτων για ανθρωποκτονία από πρόθεση στον 36χρονο Νίκο Γκόγκο από τους Κεραμάτες της Άρτας, ο οποίος πριν από ένα χρόνο σκότωσε, τεμάχισε, έβρασε και πέταξε σε υπόνομο έναν 48χρονο από την Φιλιππιάδα.

Στο εδώλιο του κατηγορουμένου κάθισε και η 26χρονη φίλη του Φαίδρα-Ουρανία Κατσίκα, στην οποία το δικαστήριο επέβαλε ποινή φυλάκισης 15 ετών για απλή συνέργεια στην ανθρωποκτονία.

Κατά την πολύωρη ακροαματική διαδικασία η οποία άρχισε νωρίς το πρωί της Τρίτης και ολοκληρώθηκε αργά το απόγευμα, το ακροατήριο «πάγωσε» από τις αποκαλύψεις για ένα έγκλημα ασύλληπτης βιαιότητας.

Στις 11 Φεβρουαρίου του 2013 το θύμα εξαφανίστηκε από το σπίτι του και δύο εβδομάδες αργότερα ο 36χρονος δράστης ομολόγησε στους αστυνομικούς, ότι τον πυροβόλησε τραυματίζοντάς τον θανάσιμα μετά από καυγά για υπόθεση ναρκωτικών.

Στην συνέχεια όπως ομολόγησε, για να εξαφανίσει τα ίχνη του θύματος, τον τεμάχισε, τον έβρασε και πέταξε τα τεμαχισμένα μέλη του στον βόθρο του σπιτιού του και στον ποταμό Άραχθο.
.
Ο δράστης έχει απασχολήσει και κατά το παρελθόν την Δικαιοσύνη για υποθέσεις ναρκωτικών και οπλοκατοχής.

Το Εθνικό Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο εξακολουθεί να έχει εικόνα παρακμής.

Ανεβαίνοντας προχθές, Κυριακή πρωί, τις κατάλευκες σκάλες του Εθνικού Αρχαιολογικού Μουσείου, με κυρίευσε ένας σχεδόν παιδικός ενθουσιασμός. Οπως παιδί δείχνεις με πρωτόγνωρη χαρά σε έναν φίλο το αγαπημένο σου σημείο για βουτιά στη θάλασσα, με την ίδια χαρά ως ενήλικος συνοδεύεις έναν φίλο, ένα αγαπημένο πρόσωπο ή έναν συνεργάτη στην πρώτη του επίσκεψη στους θησαυρούς της πόλης σου. Και τι πιο ξεχωριστό, από το ίδιο το θησαυροφυλάκιό της.

Ο κόσμος, όπως ανέμενα, πολύς. Ομως κάτι συνέβαινε στο σημαντικότερο αρχαιολογικό μουσείο της χώρας. Κατ’ αρχάς, οι μισές αίθουσες ήταν κλειστές. Τα κυκλαδικά, η αιγυπτιακή συλλογή, τα αγγεία, ποιος ξέρει τι άλλο. Συλλογές που διαφημίζονταν με τεράστια πανό έξω από το μουσείο. Και κάθε τόσο, μια λεπτομέρεια να θυμίζει τη σκληρή πραγματικότητα: όπως ο χαλασμένος από την υγρασία τοίχος στην αίθουσα της Σαντορίνης.

Αραγε πώς βλέπει το αγαπημένο μου μουσείο ο επισκέπτης της πρώτης φοράς;

Υπάρχουν τόσα που δεν καταλαβαίνω. Μικρά, απλά πράγματα. Ας πούμε, γιατί οι φύλακες να μην έχουν μια στολή, ώστε να είναι διακριτή η παρουσία τους;

Γιατί το κατάστημα του μουσείου να είναι τόσο φτωχό, τα «δείγματα» βιβλίων μισοσκισμένα και τα λιγοστά μπλουζάκια σε δύο στοίβες;

Και εν πάση περιπτώσει, γιατί να μη μετατεθούν στο Εθνικό Αρχαιολογικό κάποιοι από τους χιλιάδες δημοσίους υπαλλήλους που είναι σε διαθεσιμότητα;

Το Εθνικό Αρχαιολογικό δεν μπορεί να λειτουργεί «στη σκιά» του Μουσείου της Ακρόπολης. Είτε το συνειδητοποιούμε είτε όχι, είναι ένα από τα σημαντικότερα μουσεία του πλανήτη. Οτιδήποτε λιγότερο δεν είναι αρκετό.

A secret plan requiring that every car that entering Europe be fitted with a system that would allow them to be tracked and disabled remotely by law enforcement has been revealed, The Daily Telegraph reports

Documents obtained and leaked by civil rights group Statewatch outline a program being developed by the European Network of Law Enforcement Technologies that would “work on a technological solution that can be a ‘build in a standard’” for all automobiles.

If enacted, it would give law enforcement officers working from a computer terminal the ability to press a button to kill the engine on any car equipped with the technology within the European Union, essentially eliminating the need to use force to bring the cars to a halt.
According to documents, the stated goal of the proposal is to end the need for dangerous high speed car chases, but the director of Statewatch, Tony Bunyan, sees the potential for abuse.
"We all know about the problems surrounding police stop and searches, so why will be these cars stopped in the first place," he said.

While implementing the system across the dozens of nations that make up the European Union could prove to be a challenge, the sort of technology behind it is already available to private customers in the United States and elsewhere.

General Motors’ OnStar telematics system, which is standard on most of its vehicles today, can track and disable the cars and trucks if they are stolen, whether they are stationary or being pursued by police.

The company reports that it executes five to seven of these slowdowns each month, but requires the vehicle owner's consent to do so.
